I took a deep breath. The moment of truth was coming in less than a minute. In case you were wondering, by 'moment of truth' I meant that this is the end of the school day and I was being forced by my friends into going to find the new guy whose name just happened to be Jack Frost. On top of his name being Jack Frost, he was the hottest guy we had ever had here at our school. Now, my friends were encouraging no...shoving my things into my bag and forcing me out the door to go find him. Truth be told, I had no idea what his class was or anything so it would be a bit hard to find him. They were definitely not letting that stop me though.

Sighing, I slowly walked through the halls scanning them for the mysterious new boy. I was trying to do it as inconspicuously as possible. After walking for a while I was nearly at the main door of the school. There was still no sign of him. Maybe he had left early or hurried out quickly because he didn’t know anybody? That was probably it…or so I was beginning to think.

Finally, I reached the door and exited into the blinding sunlight. As I exited the grounds there was still no sign of him. I felt my chest loosen as I stepped off the grounds and began making my way towards home. I realized that this meant I had another day to gather up my courage.

"Eliza, is that you hun?” I heard my mother call as I walked into our house.

"Yea mom it's me!" I called back, removing my shoes before proceeding farther into the house.

"C'mere for a minute!" she yelled from the kitchen.

I followed her voice. She was sitting in the kitchen at the counter making some sort of list.

"What are you up to?" I motioned towards the piece of paper.

"Oh, I'm making a list of what I want to cook for dinner tonight. That's what I called you in here for, as a matter of fact. Were having some old family friends over for dinner. I want you to hurry up and get ready!"

I chuckled and rolled my eyes sarcastically. As if I would enjoy dressing up for some old people.

"Just do it please," my mom returned the chuckle and sarcastic eye roll.

Grinning, I turned on my heel and made my way upstairs. I would take my sweet time so that I wouldn’t have to sit for three hours listening to some old hippies chat about the old Grateful Dead concerts they used to go to.

I had rushed out of school once the final bell had rung in hopes that I could be well…alone. But that wish seemed too much to ask for. Right as I had walked in the door my parents announced that we were going over to one of their old friends' house for dinner. Great. Now instead of having my alone time I would have to sit around listening to old people talk. Oh well, I could use that time to think about the cute girl in my first period. She was…well she looked so original compared to all of the other girls. Her clothes were outrageous, like she had just thrown together every piece of bright clothing that she could find. It was like a rainbow. I couldn’t tell much about her personality because I hadn’t talked to her but she seemed shy yet kind of cocky. It was actually quite inviting compared to the rest of the whore-like girls that seemed to be everywhere this day and age.

"Were leaving now, Jack!" my mother called to me.

Groaning, I grabbed my cell and trudged down the stairs. All the way towards their friends' house I gazed out the window, daydreaming of her reaction if I asked her out. I almost laughed aloud at my girlish-like thoughts

Finally, we arrived. Grudgingly and lost in thought I walked behind my parents up towards the door. We stood there for a moment waiting for someone to answer the door. I rolled my eyes as my mom fussed with my button up shirt.

"Oh welcome, welcome! Come in! It's so good to see you guys again," the woman gushed as she opened the door.

I stood there gazing around at the décor as I waited for them to cease with their hugging and greeting and whatnot.

"Oh, you must be their son Jack! If you don’t mind, would you go upstairs and retrieve my daughter? She's about your age. Her door is the second on the left right up those stairs," the woman motioned towards a staircase close by.

Before I could respond my mother gave me a light shove towards the stairs. What a great mother she was sometimes.

Slowly, I began my trek up the stairs. I inwardly groaned as I thought about what her daughter would turn out to be like…probably just another slut. I really hoped that I wouldn’t have to deal with her hitting on me all night.

Sighing, I raised my hand and rapped my knuckled lightly on the door. A moment later the door was answered by a girl wearing nothing but a towel looking as if she had just gotten out of the shower. I fought the urge to drop my jaw open in surprise. This girl here just happened to be the Eliza from first period. Things were starting to look up already, it seemed.

Oh, and scratch that last bit about me hoping she wouldn’t flirt with me.

My eyes widened and I could feel my face growing hot. Standing in front of me was none other than Jack Frost. No, not the one from the fairy tale that I had been searching for my whole life…instead it was the Jack Frost, the new guy from school. Yes, the same Jack Frost I had been searching for after school.

After a moment he seemed to regain his composure and broke the awkward silence, "Um…sorry…your mom wanted me to come and get you."

"Your parents are the family friends?" was all I could manage to blurt out.

He chuckled and replied, "Yes, it would seem to be that way."

I laughed slightly, "So do you really want to go back down there with those boring old-timers or do you want to come in here and wait for me to change?"

I watched as his face flushed a bright red and he raised his hand too nervously scratch his head. Suddenly, I realized what he was thinking and I TOTALLY had not meant it like that.

"I meant that you could hang out in my room while I get dressed in the bathroom," I quickly clarified.

He seemed to relax a little, though his cheeks were still rosy when he nodded in agreement. I led him into my room and signaled to the chairs and bed for him to take a seat. I blushed slightly when he decided to sit on my bed.

"I'll be right back," I said before quickly hurrying into my bathroom to get dressed.

Within ten minutes I was done. I stopped and gazed at my reflection to make sure I looked alright before emerging. Jack was now lying down on my bed with his face towards the ceiling.

His eyes were closed but he spoke, "So how did you get the nickname Ice?"

My face grew hot for what seemed like the millionth time today. He'd been paying attention when my friends had called me by my nickname…and he actually remembered!

"Erm, well it's kind of a long story and it's a bit dumb actually…from another's point of view anyways," I replied, avoiding looking at him.

"It's okay, I promise I wont laugh," he said sitting up now to face me.

I sighed and shrugged, walking over to plop on my beanie chair at the foot of the bed.

"Well, to put it short and sweet, when I was young my parents told me the story of erm…Jack Frost. From then on I fell in love with him and I've spent every winter since then looking for him. My friends all tease me about it and call me Ice. Then today when you showed up they all announced that my 'love' had come for me. Oh! But they weren’t making fun of you or anything. They were just teasing me," I added the last part quickly.

He grinned widely and I felt myself blush.

"I told you it was kind of dumb," I mumbled looking down.

"No, I wasn’t laughing at you! I just think it's really cute," his grin widened as he spoke.

I turned my head to hide my grin and said, "Well I think we should go downstairs before my mom starts thinking that you raped me or something."

He laughed and said, "Yea, that would suck. Then I wouldn’t get to see you anymore."

I returned the laugh. Wait…was he joking? I decided to say nothing and started walking downstairs. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him come up to my side to walk with me.

Throughout dinner I snatched small glances at him. A few times I thought I saw him catch my eye and wink but I wasn’t sure. I also found it quite amusing that his father was nicknamed "Father Winter" because of his last name being Frost…that's also how Jack had gained his ironic name, they explained.

Finally, it was time for them to go. I was slightly disappointed. But then again I would get to see him tomorrow in first period.

I heard my mother and father saying their goodbyes. Jack and I stood alone in the front hallway. It wasn’t really a tense atmosphere just awkwardly silent.

My mom showed them out the door and walked them to their car.

"Well I'll see you at school tomorrow," Jack said giving me a small smile.

I returned the smile and replied, "Yea, first period!"

Before I knew what was happening, he leaned over and whispered to me before giving a smirk and walking swiftly away, "Good to know that such a cutie is in love with me."

My face flushed a bright red. Was he making fun of me? WHAT A JERK!
